I was disappointed that Saturn of National City is becoming South Bay Subaru but happy that the service staff and mechanics will stay on. As my SW2 is well out of warranty, I will not worry about going to Saturn of Kearney Mesa but will continue going to National City. They do a wonderful job, and I hope they continue doing so.

In the last year, Saturn of Troy has delivered two vehicles right to my driveway. It was an easier process then going to the store to buy a gallon of milk. Now I've moved to Kalamazoo and hope I can get the same level of service here.

I am very fortunate that the dealership wher I have purchased 2 cars is still open and just a couple of miles from my house! I fell bad for all of you that have been put in a position where you have to make such decisions.
I took my 07 Outlook XR for regular warrant checkup in May. I purchased the extended warranty when I bought the car, which was every 3,00 miles of 3 months. Guess what?? WITHOUT NOTICE TO ME, the terms of the warranty have been changed to every 5,000 miles or 5 months. Saturn has my home address & email, but whoever decided to change the terms of MY CONTRACT didn't bother to contact me. Check with the dealership before making a 50 mile trip!
Also during that trip to the dealership. There was a new car waiting to be detailed for the new owner. In the back window was a letter stating that effective July 1, 2009 the 30-day trade-in is no longer available. I sure am glad I bought when I did - I orginally bought an Outlook XE and traded for an Outlook XR on day 25 - no questions asked.

My '03 Vue was just in to fix a leak in the sun roof, be detailed, replace driver side mirror, and other minor items. The leak took 2 trips but its no longer leaking. The detail was absolutely outstanding. Everyone thought I had got a new car. I'm a smoker and all of the smoke odor was gone as well as the upholstery looking new. For $125 it was a steal of a bargain.

I bought a 2008 astra and an 09 Vue on the same day. The astra has not had any trouble, the vue has been in the shop non stop (inlc. just under 500 mi.). The problems have all been electrical and continue to repeat. The service department at the now defunct Saturn of Silver Spring has been rude, less than helpful and functioned in a a well below 2nd rate manner.

To Bonnie:

Personally I would make the trek to the Grand Rapids facility. That way they can check it over along with the oil change and having techs that are familiar with the vehicle as opposed to a GM facility, they are more likely to see if something is not correct. Plus, your maintenance history will be kept by Saturn. I worked for a retailer in IL and had customers, including myself after I stopped working there, driving over 50 miles to get service done. Some of those were because we were the closest, others because they didn't care for their local facility.

I guess weigh the options and do what you feel most comfortable with. Good luck and would love to hear more about your experiences with the hybrid. It's the one model I don't have much knowledge about in terms of ownership experience. Thanks!

Fortunately up til now, my 09 Sky has only needed oil changes. The rear-light on it has gone out shold this be a major concern.

Interesting views on service. I should have seen the writing on the wall about a year ago when the Saturn retailer in Brooklyn closed down. The closest one to me is either 15 miles and $11.50 in tolls or 27 miles. Gas station is right around the corner from me so i have taken it there for the regular oil change/maintenance routine. So far, so good. But that is what concerns me the most. Finding a place to have proper maintenance done when its due. I always felt comfortable bringing my car in to the Saturn dealership and letting them take care of everything at its appointed time. Now, with all the dealerships closing down, even the GM's, this is a major issue. And with Penske buying into Saturn, will GM service Saturn cars, if that is an option?

The Saturn dealerships in Towson and Owings Mills (both in MD) had exceptional service but now that I'm in CT I haven't used any dealership service. For one thing there are none close-by and for another I have heard some very bad things about them (mainly asserting that things needed fixing at expensive prices that did not actually need fixing). So now I'm going to a locally owned repair shop when I need things done.

I still love Saturns though and when I'm ready to buy a car again it will definitely be a Saturn. Only I'm going to try to buy online. LOL

My 2009 Saturn Vue hybrid will be due for another oil change in the next month or so. At this point I am debating if I should take it to the only Saturn dealership remaining in the west Michigan area in Grand Rapids which is over 50 miles away from my home or just have it changed here in Muskegon at the GM dealership. I should perhaps check out if there is any significant change in the quality of service with the change-over and just drive it to Grand Rapids. Any feedback?
