In response to RjION above.
The Astra did not sell, because of the lack of marketing and the higher base price than the newly introducted Astra. I took a chance on the Astra XR and I am so glad that I did, because I have a car that is very unique to
the daily car population and it's nice to have a car that is so different from all of the other "cookie cutter" cars out there! My car is rare and I like it that way!
Hail to the Astra!

Here in Stuart, Fl we purchased some pre-owned VUE's two weeks ago at the auction. 2009, low mileage vehicles. Last week the same VUE's were selling for $800-900 more for the same vehicles. Don't let anyone tell you that there is no market for your vehicle.
The usual reason that a seller and buyer don't get together is that one of the parties is unrealistic about the value of the item.

I'm mad as hell. A great car going down the toilet because GM (Goofey Manufacturer) hadn't a clue. I've had four Saturns and loved every one of them. My latest is an Astra which is probably the only car I've ever owned which I can truthfully say is a fun car to drive. Unfortunately, it never got the hype that the Astra and the Vue got. Service has always been exellant. Sadly, this will be my last Saturn, unless a miracle happens. This will definitely be my last GM since I feel betrayed. I can't say what my next car will be, but it will not be a Chevie, Buick or Caddy. Goodbye! GM.

First they kill their Pontiac line.. and now the Saturn line because they want to "focus on their high end lines" because when I think GM I think high end... Ummm... No, not really. Oh well. I got 170,000 miles out of my last Saturn and I am just over 40,000 miles on the my current one. At least I have a long way to go before it is time to get a new car.

After griping a couple days about the Penske buyout falling though, I started getting my 3 Saturns ('92 SC-2, '02 L-200, '04 Ion) up to date on maintenance. IMHO, service has been outstanding these past 17 years at our area Saturn outlet. Looks like they're planning on sticking around for a while, but at this point I'm concerned about the possibility/probability of eventually having to go to some non-Saturn GM dealer for maintenance. I have a GMC van and get it serviced at the Buick-GMC dealer. It's not bd, but definitely not up to par with service at Saturn.
There is a new car company trying to do things diffrent. Maybe the people that worked for Saturn would fit in at Telsa Moters.

The part of the deal I've had a questioned, is why was the sale of Saturn only for the badge? I'm guessing GM was only providing the base fram and engine, but the rest was being built by Saturn. I was glad Penske wa planning to buy Saturn, but I was a little less confident with talks to Renault and Nissan to produce cars for Saturn. I guess because I am still a buy American kind of guy. Let alone, I remember huge issues with Renault. Also, I don't see many long lasting "old" Nissans on the road. I guess now we may never see long lasting "old" Saturns on the road, unless it is the Sky owners, since the car would be a collectible.
I wonder if the Sky or Solstice will be showing up in Jay Leno's garage any time soon.
