About Me:
Chicago native transplanted in Boston. I have followed Saturn since the beginning and some could say, a little addicted. My 08 Sky RL is Saturn #7 for me. My ownership started with a '94 SC1 and a '94 SW2. I then traded for a '96 SC2 Classic Coupe, next onto an '03 L300, then picked up a '98 SL2 (used)as a second vehicle to cut down on mileage for the L300, '06 Ion Red Line, '08 Sky Red Line. I have a bin of print material, articles, model catalogs from the first year and anything else Saturn. I hope Saturn continues on it's current success and path. And I'm now a proud owner of an Astra XR 3-door in Twilight Blue and 18" Star Spoke wheels, advanced audio and leather, Saturn #8!

Flying High In The Sky

One of the most common questions I field about my 2008 Saturn Sky Red Line is “That’s a Saturn?” Well, my standard answer, along with others that own one is, “Yes, it’s a Saturn”. So how did this Midnight Blue with black leather interior drop top come home with me?

For those that do not know me, I have been following Saturn since GM announced the development of a small car to compete with the likes of Toyota and Honda back in the 80’s. I read everything I could find about the project and what R… Continue

Saturn Astra: The First 60 Days...Or 3,000 Miles

Here it is, 60 days since delivery and I'm at 3,100 miles. Wow! Guess that's what a 70 mile round trip commute will do to a new car. And that new car being the 2008 Saturn Astra XR 3 door. Or 2 door hatch as some call it. Whatever you want to call it, I call it a really fun car!

When I first saw the Astra at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show, I knew that was going to be my next Saturn, after I bought my Sky Red Line of course. I was driving an Ion Red Line and was laying the ground work for the Sky pu… Continue

Ion Red Line Can Kiss My Astra!

Well, I did it. After much hemming and hawing, I made the decision to trade the Ion Red Line in for an Astra XR 3 door. Why you ask? Why go from a supercharged, 240+ hp ride, polymer panels, XM, fun ride to an Astra? LOTS of reasons.

First, I love the styling of the Astra 3 door. The lines are great, especially the rear quarter into the tail light. The aggressive stance from the front with the flared wheel well openings, 18" 40 series wheels, and the low profile roof line.

Second, and one of t… Continue

Ion Red Line turns 30! 30,000 that is...

Well, the Ion hit the 30,000 mark last week. After taking delivery in late 2005 it finally hit the mark. My impressions of this milestone are somewhat mixed. Maybe it's because it's the end of the year? Or is it because my ex has written me lately on how "miserable" life is? Granted, part of what's going on isn't all necessarily his own doing. The current economy has much to do with it. Or is it because life took a major turn for me this year, leaving my native Chicago, my friends, family (of wh… Continue

Saturn "Not Meeting Expectations" ?

Wow. There it is, in the GM viability plan submitted to Congress. But it comes to mind after following the Saturn story as to why this is the case, at least from an "outsider's" point of view. Here was a new car company developed by GM to fight the imports, mainly Toyota and Honda, that had a new philosophy, a new way of doing business and what appeared to be a fresh start for a company that had continued to do things, "business as usual". "A different kind of company, a different kind of car".… Continue

It seems as if Saturn is the heartbeat of GM. I think for GM to cut Saturn loose would be like cutting your right arm off. I hope they really look at this carefully. The Saturns outnumber the other cars on the road and THAT speaks volumes!
BTW - There is going to be an article about me and my cars in the Saturn 360 magazine. I can autograph a copy for you if you'd like! LOL!

Yeah, upgraded audio (well worth it just for the computer functions), and as you can see, the Pirelli P Zero Rosso summer tires on 18's, and leather trim. There are 2 trip computers, one I leave go so it records life-of-vehicle economy and one I reset every tankful. So far it is getting about 30mpg combined and if my last car (an HHR - I miss the iPod jack!) is any indication, I expect the number to increase starting at around 5000 miles. I'm a little over 1500 now. On the other hand, I am starting to enjoy the handling more and winding it out a little. Man does not live by mpg alone...
