Okay, even though I just bought a '99 SW1 5-speed with 155K from my big brother to replace a cherry, bought-from-new 4Runner for fuel mileage reasons, I am having a blast carving through the esses in this thing. It's such a sleeper! It's so light on…
BTW, it's absolutely wonderful that a CAR GUY, Roger Penske, appears to have ante'd up and bought the Saturn franchise. As I understand it, he plans to build the Saturn for at least 2 years, so maybe something else will come up to keep it alive.
I just joined the Saturn group, and I am so amused by this post! Gallons of oil?!! Hilarious! At any rate, I am still in gestation; I sold a very nice, owned-from-new 150K-mile '96 4Runner to buy my older bro's '99 SW1 SOHC 5-speed, with its 10mpg h…
Well, I'm a little premature in the Saturn arena. I just sold a 1996 Toyota 4Runner with 150K miles that got a consistent 19mpg and agreed to buy my brother's 1999 gold SW1 5-speed of similar mileage which he will personally deliver on June 18th. He gets almost 30mpg city and over 40 highway, which is mileage I need all of a sudden. I'm a bit more boy-racer than he is, so I'm already looking into ways to wake it up and dress it properly. And, I love to row a gearbox. May pull the powerplant and replace it with a built DOHC or even a supercharged Ecotech, if it will slip in without sacrificing the A/C, which is a must in Texas. Eager to see if any members have any ideas or similar experiences. Look forward to getting the car; I appreciate that the car is so light at about 2400 pounds, since the reason my 4Runner got the mileage it got was due to its low weight. Makes a world of difference in handling, as well. Sounds like a good crowd here.
