I have spent a lot of time filling in all of the little chips with touch-up paint – on the hood, on the wheel wells and just above the windshield. Up close it obviously doesn't look "professional," but at least as I walk up to the car I am a littl...

The paint job is garbage. Period. Too bad dealers who are going out won't stand behind their product.

Hi, I have an 08 Astra, Salsa Red,with 19,000 KM and I have paint problems too.Not only the hood, but some on the sides as well ( gas cap ridge), and one that has peeled back on the front wheel well. I also find that my windshield pocked like craz...

I had the dealership put a clear bra on my Astra before I drove it off the lot. Its protects a huge area and was worth the money. However, the car does chip in the front where it is not protected. I have no idea why, maybe because its the most Eur...

Ok I am done with this paint job. I am visiting my dealer shortly as I have now had my Astra for One Year. 35 000 km's later I am not impressed at all with the way the front of my car looks. Yes it may have something to do with the fact that the c...

I had that "ghost shield" installed at the dealer. It goes 1/2 way up the hood, on the headlights, on the front bumper and on both mirrors. However, I got a couple of rock chips about 2 inches just behind where the shield ends (my luck). I guess i...

Small chips (size and amount) I might be able to live with, but the fact is that the front of my hood looks like it got sprayed by a BB gun. I have more paint chips developing further up on the hood, on the front of the roof above the windshield (...

Yes, I have a few chips but I thick it's due to very low front end. I ordered a bug shield similar to one I had on my truck, but it plastic knobs which were taped on the hood of the car and also tape by the head lights. I think it would do more da...

I have had a few very small marks, I think from following a truck that was throwing off debris. I used to drive a Vibe, and the hood got all sorts of chips in it. After that I bought a Miata, and the Mazda owner's manual suggested not following ot...

Looking for Astra Roof Rack Components?

So I bought my Astra in New Brunswick, Canada and the dealer said they didn't know when roof components were going to be available, ditto with American dealers I guess after my visit to a Saturn dealer in Bangor, Maine.

However, you can get roof rack components from Thule in Canada or the United States. The fit kit is number 3025 (coincidently, that is the same fit kit number offered in Europe for the Opel Astra) and you will need the #460 foot pack in order to fit the pre-mount.

The fit kit w… Continue

I have spoken with an attorney friend of mine who suggested that I initially pursue action through the Better Business Bureau. In support of this action I am planning to visit an independent body shop to have my ASTRA's paint measured and/or assessed – Saturn- and GM-affiliated body shops brush me off with the explanation "damage due to environmental causes," which simply cannot explain how many paint chips I have collected. I have attempted to contact Saturn management which also led to no acknowledgment of my problem, and I was dismissed with the statement that "paint chipping due to environmental causes is not covered under warranty." I have read claims elsewhere that today's new car paint is soft because it is more environmentally friendly and thus chips easier – which is not happening to my bumper, so I don't buy it. Good luck to us....

I found your ImSaturn post about the problems you were having with your ASTRA's paint after noticing a similar problem on my 2008 XE (blue). I first noticed small paint chips after washing my car in mid-January, and there seem to be more with every car wash (although I am not driving in any area or manner where this amount of chipping ought to be happening). I live in Abilene, TX and the retailer where I bought the car in August is no longer handling Saturn warranty issues, so I had to drive to Fort Worth to have another retailer check it out. Of course the body shop guy said that the damage was from debris impacts, but the service manager seemed to believe me when I told him that I have not done any "stressful" driving and that I should not be seeing this amount of damage in such a short period of time. Whether or not that results in a warranty repair is still up in the air (he is trying to get in touch with a regional Saturn manager). A chemistry professor at the university where I teach thinks that there is a problem with the seal between the paint and the undercoat, which is why it is chipping so easily. How was your problem handled? Was it handled? Do you know what Diane Fueslein meant by her post? I have also tried to get in touch with her to find out what Saturn knows, but no answer so far. Well, let me know if you reached a resolution. Thanks!

Cole: Do you have all the part numbers, etc. for the Thule setup you bought (minus the kayak stuff).

Thanks
