Anyone switched their stock stereo out for an aftermarket? If so any ideas what would be needed? I have an Alpine CDA 9886 deck wish I had previously installed in my '99 SL. My understanding from crutchfield.com is that I need a $200 adapter so that the door chimes/alarms/warnings work through the stereo as they do currently. I'm curious to know if anything else is necessary for a) XM to work through the alpine b) the steering wheel controls to work through the alpine stereo. After spending so much on a deck its disappointing to learn that such an over-expensive adapter is necessary for it to work.
The 9886 is ipod capable as its primarily what I used it for in my SL. The Aux input in the vue is handy but I prefer the input type on the alpine similar to that of the article/video on the DIY on the front page of this website. I'd also like to be sure this will integrate well with the vue.
I'm anxious to get this installed at bestbuy but have a feeling its going to cost me a lot more than I'm bargaining for. To my knowledge all I'm missing is the install kit itself and this $200 adapter. I really don't want to spend more than the cost of this old deck to have it installed.
Also one concern...any '09 owners notice anything about the tint getting scratched on the rear windows? Mine has received vertical scratches from simply putting the windows up and down in several places across each window. I can only hope this is covered by warranty. They don't ''come out'' with normal or vigorous window cleaning.
