B-Dog,
I'm with you on teh extra zip. I'd really like to find some place that has decent, user installable tuner and performance parts for my Astra. If anyone has "facts" on interoperable parts from another model, it would be great. I did some research and found the Opel parts lists for the comparable Euro version, but most of those Euro folks won't ship to the US. Bummer. I especially like some of the exterior parts like the stuff from Irmscherm, e.g. the lower spoiler. But I think a painted unit for over $500 is a bit steep.

I'm approaching 20,000 miles on my Astra XR 3-Door with a Manual trans, and my overall average for MPG in the 16,000+ miles that I've had it is at 29.7 MPG. That's all of the miles that I've driven (the car had 3,550 miles on it when I bought it in Feb. 2009). It was up above 30 MPG until the summer heat sapped the mileage somewhat. When I filled up yesterday, my BC (Trip Computer) said I got 28.5 MPG, but when I did the calculation of miles/gallons bought, I actually got 30.3 MPG. The BC has been high before as well as low, so I look at it as a pretty realistic number. Either way, I'm most pleased with my Astra's MPG, and all I could wish for would be a larger gas tank and a bit more power and torque!

My 2008 Astra XR3 now has about 2000 miles on it. I've averaged city/Hwy about 28 MPG. Worst I've gotten was about 25 and best 32. I did take the car back for some post sale adjustments and they did have a "watch order" for a transmission component that caused the engine to race and possibly stall. The component might be "cracked". Per my dealer, mine was clearly broken and problematic. You might want to ask your dealer to check your cars.

I do 60 on the highway and 45 on the country roads, so I should get better mileage than I do. I average only 22 mpg!! My car is new, as well; I bought it in Feb. and it has 7,100 miles on it now. The best I ever got was driving across country with interstates all the way. There I got 100 more miles out of a tank. I dunno; the car is ok, but if I had to choose again, I probably wouldn't have chosen the Astra.

I feel like the tank empties quickly I think 10 gallons is too small. I average about 28 mpg, which is worse than I thought it would be. The best I ever got was about 32 on a long trip.

My mpg isn't great either - about 27-28 average, and I do a lot of highway driving. But I go about 75, and my car is still real new. I think it may improve.

I get only 250 miles to a tank. :( I do a lot of city driving, but a lot of country and interstate driving, as well, per tank...

My MPG tends to be around 28-30 in the city and about 32 for highway

Bonnie asked about MPG... In town driving I generally get around 28. But on a recent 1500 mile trip I managed to break 34MPG on a couple tankfuls. And that's not being light on the pedal and doing only 55. From what I can tell the sweet spot for gas efficiency on the highway is around 65.
