Has anyone had any problems with your Astras? I have about 9,700 miles on mine and the check engine light came on. I've gotta take it in tomorrow to see what's going on.
Bonnie, I'm sorry that your Check Engine Light came on. I've had my Astra XR 3-Door since February 2009 and I've not had any such trouble, and I've got just over 23,000 miles on the car. I did have to get the driver's seat recline mechanism fixed (I think because my son broke it, but it was a warranty fix!). The only other thing I've noticed is how much the black rain channel covers on the roof have spotted up and faded, and I plan to get those replaced under warranty (I hope) closer to the 36,000 mile point.
I absolutely LOVE my Astra! I hope that they figure out that it's an easy fix for yours. Have a good weekend.

Hey B-Dog, my dealer told me the spotty rain channel covers are a warranty fix. I haven't taken mine in yet, but I'm trusting him. I gotta get in before they close !
Any updates you can give us on the check engine light? I have an XR 5 door with only 2k miles on it.
I did have an a/c belt squeal just at take off. Dealer said it was the tensioner needing adjustment and it was a common item and fixed it. Got to say the service department is phenomenal. I have never had this level of service in a vehicle.
The light is still on. I called the dealership where I bought it from and they couldn't get me in last week. I spoke with a mechanic and he thinks it might be a sensor that's dirty. He's going to check it out this coming Saturday. I'll let you know what I find out.
The dealership checked out my Astra and found that I had something wrong with my fuel system. Or that's what the code was suggesting. The service tech said their computers were down, so he will get a printout when they come back up and mail it to me. I'll let you know what it says when I get it.
Yes, the service department IS phenomenal. I was told by one of the service guys at the dealership that Penske bought out Saturn, so it'll be interesting to see what happens next...
I was told there is a defect in the Saturns' computer chips in the transmissions. They replaced mine. So far I don't think it's common knowledge yet...
I never got the printout. The light went off when I was on my way to the dealership! But they said the code was saying it was a vacuum leak. I went back last weekend (the light came back on) and they said it could be my gas cap. I checked it (don't know why they didn't when I took it in the first time) and it doesn't lock when I close it. It'll click, but not lock. I'm taking it back Monday and they're going to check it out and probably replace my gas cap. Thank goodness it's an easy fix! (Or, I hope it is... Fingers crossed...)
They ended up replacing the fill neck, seal (which was bad), and gas cap and so far, so good, though my gas mileage sucks. I get maybe 20 miles to 1/8 of a tank of gas.
Good to know that it was something simple. But even simple stuff has to concern me now that the Saturn brand is going the way of the dinosaurs. Just announced on the news within the last hour that the Penske deal is off. GM is going to phase out Saturn.
I do love my Astra. GM has to by law carry a 10 year part inventory. I just hope that Europe will be more accesible for parts.
I don't like the sound of that. Saturns are supposed to be such good cars, or so I heard. Why would GM want to phase them out? (Sorry; typing out loud...) There are GMs they could/should phase out and leave the Saturns alone, IMO.
That's good that they have to carry the parts for 10 years. I just wish they were here in warehouses and not in Europe...
