BTW folks, I took the GM badges off the sides of my Astra. A little GooGone, 10 minutes of soak time and a credit card did the trick! You'd never know they were there. I have them sticking to my refrigerator. They might become a collector's item one day!

Oh, and in case you didn't see this...this is a link to an article that I was interviewed for that was in the Pittburgh Post-Gazette yesterday. I live in Los Angeles County, Calif, so I still don't know how this guy found me...(left me a message on my cell phone.)

Me personally, I'm not a car salesman. I worked for Outback Steakhouse for 10 years... I left when the philosophy changed. I should have started working for Saturn years ago. My dealership is letting the franchise lease run out here and we are moving our guys down to the used car facility. Service is getting absorbed by the other brands at a different location. Lots of other places are not so fortunate. It makes no sense to me that the UAW has so much control that GM is being forced to remove the only two brands (Saturn & Opel) that it controls that produce the best cars they make.

Of course, it's only a car, think about all the Saturn employees who will be out of work soon.

Thomas - Any GM Dealer is required to fulfill any warrantied repairs on your Astra. I would think you could bring your car in after your warranty expires as well.

I live in Erie, Pa but I bought my Astra at the Mentor, Ohio dealership, about 80 miles away.

My Saturn dealer closed in March, nearest dealer is a 3 hour drive away.

I was told by Saturn when I bought my astra a couple months ago that GM is required by law to carry a 10 year part inventory on vehicles sold. With over 500,000 astras sold per year over in year, I really dont think there will be a scarcity of parts. GM has not yet sold its controlling interest in Opel. There are talks that GM will still remain as a substantial shareholder in Opel.

Thomas - Not sure yet. Your Saturn dealer. Yes. Yes.

What happens now? Where do we get service? Will a Chevy dealer be able to fix a Belguim built Astra? Now that GM doesn't have control of Opel will we be able to get parts?
