With more than 312,000 Km on a 97 SW1 I bought a new ASTRA. Nothing wrong with the SW1 but it was just time for a new car. Good choice as the new one feels even better than the '97.

Hi everybody id like to say that saturn knows how to build the best motors my motor has 212,560 miles on it,okay my story starts off that i wanted more power out of my motor insted of going with a DOHC im keepin my SOHC, I live in penticton BC canada my best friend moved to edmonton Alberta canada so i had to send my motor to him to get fixed. now the first thing he said when we opened the motor is "Here you go man. The block shows no real sign of any type of hard wear. There are no cracks and no chips of any kind internally. Good bi-structures and cooling jackets throught. This block is clean! It needs no hot tanking or machining, nor does any of the other parts. Just a rebuild kit and whatever goodies you would like to bolt on". we have pics of the Block, next is the crank assembly.I also have pics and this is what he said "Okay mang, here you go thease are the pics of the crank assembly (no pistons installed in thease photos). The specs for the crank journals oil clearance measured out at .002 inch the con rod specs are .00039 inch oil clearance. The cylinder walls show no wear and with only a slight variation on the number 4 cylinder witch from what I understand is normal from factory. Also the ring gap was perfect even with a light honing to regain proper cross hatch for ring seating." Now nobody can tell me that saturn dont make the best motors hope you all liked my story and ill be finding a way to upload the pics to you can have a look.Plus ill keep you updated on the progress of my motor

The first of the line of saturns, the 96 SL2, is at over 212k now and still going strong (for a saturn at that age). Has the normal massive oil consumption from the shot rings but thats normal on these motors.

I've had 2 Saturns over 200K.
First was a 92 SL2. Got 207K out of the clutch, which blew the dealer's mind when I said it was still working okay but had started slipping. I traded it in at 225K for a 2000 SL1, which I sold at 229K, running perfectly, looking great, and never once failed to start.

I am a sales consultant at Saturn of Boise, and just helped a nice lady up grade to a new VUE from a 99 SL2 with a little over 265,000 miles. It still runs ok, just time for a new car.
